Dear colleague,
Congratulations on having your abstract accepted for a poster, poster pitch or oral presentation!
Please follow our guidelines below in your preparations for the event.
General
Be aware that the VSD attracts a broad audience with expertise varying from fundamental research to social sciences and from mice to elephants ๐. Therefore, it is highly appreciated if you:
- Give a clear and extensive introduction to your topic
- Prevent the use of abbreviations only known in your field (or clearly explain them first)
- Engage with the audience and get a sense of what they do and do not understand
Moreover, given the theme of the VSD, it would be very nice if you could briefly share your thoughts on how AI influences or will influence your research (not obligatory to do).
Three awards can be won, namely one for best oral presentation, one for best poster pitch and one for best poster. An anonymous independent jury is being appointed to judge the oral talks and pitches. The best poster will be elected by voting. Only non-permanent staff is eligible for the poster and poster pitch price.
Information and guidelines poster
Posters need to be printed in A0 format and prepared in English. For general advice on how to make a poster, we suggest to use these guidelines drafted by another veterinary conference.
Posters must be displayed all day in two dedicated poster rooms on the ground floor of Antropia. In case of sunny weather, poster boards will be placed outside on the terrace. Please hang up your poster before 9.00 and remove it either at the end of the last break (15.55) or after the award ceremony (18.00).
You will receive the room name and your poster number in the morning of the VSD at the registration desk. Push pins or tacks to hang up the poster will be provided by the VSD committee.
Information and guidelines poster pitches
Poster pitches have the aim of drawing people to your actual poster. In 1.5 minutes, you need to find a way to attract them, for example by giving a teaser, only sharing the main conclusion, or by telling a fun story that makes the audience curious. It is nรณt the aim to explain your full research.
We have a poster pitch session in the morning (8 pitches), and one in the afternoon (11 pitches), all in the plenary time slots. Right after the poster pitch sessions, there are coffee breaks, so people can immediately visit the poster they are curious about. We recommend to mention the room in which your poster is displayed, and the poster number.
Poster pitches take 1.5 minutes maximally. We will show a clock on stage so you know how many seconds you have left. Please stick to the time.
You can present a maximum of 2 slides during your pitch. Please email the slides as .ppt format to vsd@uu.nl at last on May 13th at 15.00 , so we can already put them in order to make the pitch session run smoothly.
Information and guidelines oral presentations
In total, 20 abstracts have been selected for an oral talk. All talks are 15 minutes, including questions. Please make sure that your presentation lasts 10-12 minutes, so there is time for questions from the audience.
We have two time slots for the talks (11.10-12.40 and 15.55-16.55). During both slots we have two parallel sessions. We aim to divide the talks into 4 themes so people can choose the parallel session they like based on a theme. The definitive program and parallel session themes will be shared later.
Please prepare your slides in ppt or save as PDF. There is time to upload your presentation at the VSD in the morning, between 8.30 and 9.00 (or if not possible before the VSD starts, during the first break between 10.30 and 11.00).
